Orange Crunch Cake
Crunch Layer
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
- ½ cup slivered almonds
- 1 ½ cups dark brown sugar
- ½ cup butter (melted)
Instructions
- Combine crunch layer ingredients.
- Press 1/3 into each bottom of three greased and floured 9" pans.
Cake
Ingredients
- 2 boxes packaged yellow cake mix
- 2 tbsp orange extract
- orange juice
Instructions
- Follow the directions on the cake mix and add the extract.
Frosting
Ingredients
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 16 oz cream cheese
- 1 lb butter
- 3 tbsp orange zest
- food coloring (red and yellow)
Instructions
- In bowl of standing mixer fitted with a whisk, mix sugar, cream cheese, butter and orange zestĀ on low speed until well blended and then mix an additional 3 minutes on medium speed.
- Add red and yellow food coloring until frosting reaches desired orange color.
Assembling the Cake
Ingredients
- 1 orange
Instructions
- Place one layer, crunch side up, on plate.
- Spread with 1/2 cup frosting.
- Top with the remaining layer, crunch side up.
- Spread top and sides with remaining frosting.
- Garnish with orange slices, if desired.
